Reiki is a hands-on healing method that originated in Japan. The practitioner channels healing energy through her hands using a light touch either directly on the body or slightly off the body. The word Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a Japanese composite word usually translated as "universal life energy". It is based on the idea that all living beings have life energy flowing through them. When life energy is high, you are healthy and balanced, more relaxed and less likely to get sick. When it is low, you'll often be more easily affected by stress and less resistant to illness. Reiki helps return your body to its natural state of balance and well-being. It is a safe complement to conventional Western medicine, Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy and all other forms of healing.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Everyone – no matter what age, gender, religion or state of health. Reiki has a positive affect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. Reiki can help with minor things like head aches or stomach aches, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illness like cancer and heart disease. It can reduce or eliminate side effects of conventional medical treatment, including the negative effects of chemotherapy, post-operative pain and depression. It can strengthen the immune system for surgeries and cancer therapies. It accelerates natural healing following surgery or illness. Reiki always helps, and in some cases people have experienced complete healings which have been confirmed by medical tests before and after the Reiki treatments. However, while some have experienced miracles, they cannot be guaranteed. Most people experience stress reduction along with gradual improvement of physical and psychological condition.
What happens during a Reiki session?
In a standard session, Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the client’s needs. Each position is held for three to five minutes. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.
What does a Reiki session feel like?
Experiences during a Reiki treatment vary from person to person. The cient may feel heat, cold, tingling, waves of energy, or nothing at all. The most commonly reported benefits of Reiki are increased and smoother energy, greater calmness and a sense of balance. The Reiki energy encourages the recipient to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings, leading to a state of peace and well-being. Clients often experience physical, emotional and spiritual release during a session.

Testimonials
From Ronnie, a breast cancer survivor: "I had to undergo radiation therapy. I was told to expect it to be stressful and that I would probably be more tired than usual. To the rescue came Ingrid of Healing Hands. She gave me Reiki treatments once a week during the six weeks I was going through the daily radiation treatments. I can honestly say that I breezed through the whole radiation process and I attribute that to the Reiki I received from Ingrid. I was not stressed or tired at all. On the contrary, the Reiki made me relaxed and calm and even energized. It was wonderful and I am so grateful to her!"
